Summary of Role:

Primary responsibilities for this FAS role based in the Boston area (Northeast, US) include providing technical sales support, giving technical presentations at customer sites and select conferences and working directly with customers to identify additional disruptive applications for the BioXp Synthetic Biology Workstation. The successful applicant will provide complex experimental design and applications support, troubleshooting and diagnosis on BioXp systems in key workflows across biologics drug discovery, vaccine development, cell and gene therapy and genome editing applications. The Field Applications Scientist will be responsible for providing operator training on BioXp instruments and educate customers on current BioXp applications and how to replace or streamline their existing workflows through integration of those applications in their laboratory processes. This position has a large pre-sales function and works closely as a partner with the sales team. He/she will also formulate changes in development, maintenance and system standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive technical training and support for BioXp technology, including on-site, hands-on wet lab and software training
  • Provide pre- and post-sales technical and scientific presentations, to small groups and large audiences, on the use of BioXp technology in life science research and drug discovery segments with heavy focus on biologics drug discovery, vaccine development, cell and gene therapy and genome editing workflows
  • Carry out demonstrations and feasibility studies, where appropriate
  • Prepare and present white papers, conference posters, and other collateral
  • Create and maintain support information in the company enterprise database
  • Implement training plans and courses for internal and external customers
  • Participate in new product development projects
  • Assist in the creation and review of technical materials (manuals, application notes, presentations)
  • Assist and train customers in design of DNA constructs for custom applications
  • Create clear, compelling technical presentations
  • Excellent speaking skills and polished customer interactions
  • Present data in a clear and compelling manner
  • Assist in the sales process
  • All other duties as assigned or necessary

Required Qualifications:

  • 3 years of hands-on experience with some or all of synthetic biology, biologics/antibody engineering, vaccine discovery, cell/gene therapeutics, NGS applications and related genomics workflows.
  • Experience with DNA design, library design, codon optimization and Gibson Assembly and other synthetic biology workflows is a plus. Experience troubleshooting molecular biology workflows is a plus. Familiarity/experience with Salesforce is a plus.
  • 2 years of experience in customer-facing role (eg, field applications, technical sales support)
  • Confident speaker, ability to convey complex technical information with ease in English
  • Highly adaptable and independent
  • Thrive in a start-up, rapidly growing company environment
  • Excellent computer, verbal and writing skills, including fluent English
  • Collaborative, problem solving skills

Education Requirements:

  • Minimum of a BS or advanced degree in Molecular/Cellular Biology, Chemical Engineering, Genomics, Biology/Chemistry or related field
  • Fluent English required

Travel Required:

  • Travel: Up to 50%, including internationally
