Summary of Role:

We are looking for an experienced synthetic/ molecular biologist who is willing to roll up their sleeves and guide customers to success with our suite of molecular biology products (https://telesisbio.com/products/bioxp-system/). Using their scientific expertise, they will own all the technical components of pre- and post- sale activities, and leverage success in these areas to drive revenue growth. In collaboration with their business development manager, they will build strong relationships with customers in the territory. The ideal candidate is collaborative and thrives in a fast-paced environment. They enjoy customer site visits, preparing and delivering hands-on trainings, technical troubleshooting, and continuous education of customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Pre-sales support:

  • Engage with customers in discovery calls to understand & document their current workflows and pain points
  • Create and deliver technical presentations to showcase the value of BioXp to solve pain points. Relate BioXp applications back to their use in biologics drug discovery, vaccine development, cell and gene therapy workflows.
  • Design & execute proof of concept studies in the lab. This includes independently running molecular biology workflows like analyzing DNA, mRNA, molecular cloning, etc., and keeping a lab notebook to document the activities.

Post-sales support:

  • Track, monitor, and report KPIs like territory orders, revenue, and customer sentiment
  • Provide experimental design and consultative troubleshooting guidance on the entire BioXp system kit/ product portfolio and their downstream uses, including but not limited to:
  • Gene synthesis and DNA libraries
  • DNA cloning (molecular cloning, Gibson Assembly, bacterial transformation, DNA prep, Sanger, NGS)
  • Rolling circle amplification
  • In vitro transcription
  • DNA and mRNA transfection (protein production)
  • DNA and mRNA quantification and quality assessment (e-gel, Tapestation, Qubit, Nanodrop)
  • Designing expression constructs for recombinant protein production/ protein engineering in prokaryotes and eukaryotes (including codon optimization and use of degenerate bases for screens)
  • Formulate responses to customer support inquiries in a timely manner. Track the correspondence to technical case resolution thoroughly in CRM and read/ reference the technical product information. This involves entry and daily management cases in the CRM.
  • Onboard new customers via onsite instrument training, kit use trainings, and software/ portal trainings.
  • Work in lock step with business development manager to grow territory revenue by building strong relationships with all customers, from direct end users to upper management

Other responsibilities:

  • Accomplish department and organization goals by accepting ownership for internal requests
  • Create clear, compelling technical presentations
  • Document all customer interactions in SFDC (CRM)
  • Thoroughly work technical support cases in SFDC (CRM) and liaise with stakeholders to assist in identifying root-cause of issues
  • Attend and present technical content at trade shows, conferences, and customer lunch & learns
  • Implement training plans and courses for internal and external customers
  • Prepare and present white papers, conference posters, and other collateral
  • Assist in the creation and review of technical materials to support expansion and implementation of technical knowledge base (manuals, application notes, presentations)
  • Stay up to date on technology news, trends, product roadmaps, and market conditions
  • Interface with and guide more junior members of the internal team

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in Molecular/Cellular Biology, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Genomics Science, Biology/Chemistry or related field
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with molecular biology workflows, and an intimate knowledge of designing and executing molecular cloning experiments.
  • Experience with DNA design, library design, codon optimization and Gibson Assembly and other synthetic biology workflows is a must.
  • 2+ years of experience in customer-facing role (e.g., field applications, technical sales) with ‘support’ focused mindset
  • Proactive, needs little guidance once trained
  • Detail-oriented, meticulous, and quick learner
  • Excellent computer, written, and verbal speaking skills (including fluent English) and polished customer interactions
  • Sense of urgency

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Wet lab experience with IVT and mRNA transfection
  • Knowledge of experimental techniques used for drug development in cell therapies, vaccines, and antibody discovery spaces
  • Expertise in laboratory automation
  • Proficiency with SFDC (CRM) and PowerBI

Travel:

Travel is required up to 50%. Accounts are mainly in the Boston/ New England area; exceptions for international travel may be applicable

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $120,000 – $150,000 + Bonus + Stock Options + Benefits. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, location of the role, and how these qualifications compare to the internal equity of current employees.
